Hearts

Well, it's not exactly a critter itself, but it does make up a big part of most living, breathing, moving critters out there: the heart. Med/vet school students may argue about which is more important, the brain or the heart, but I've got to go with the heart. You can be brain dead and live, but not the converse. Hearts (not anything to do with cupid or any other young, naked cherub) are pretty durn cool. When I was little, I first learned to love biology by going fishing with my Dad, who would dissect the fish hearts as we cleaned them for dinner. I learned that fishes have a two-chambered heart and humans and other mammals have a four-chambered heart.

I've told this story too many times to count - that I'm a biologist, in part, because Daddy would cut hearts open for me when I was a little girl. And I still think it's an awesome thing to see. Here's a fish heart and a human heart. I used to have a fantastic t-shirt with a human heart on it that I loved to wear while working out. Other people didn't seem to like it too much, though...

Also: ran two miles this morning in the rain. We're up to 14.5 miles total this week!

I remember that shirt. I also remember a shirt of Daddy's that i have always wanted to burn..the one that says, "the quickest way to a mans heart is through his fly." of course, its a fly fishing ref, but it still makes me cringe.

but hey, working computer! well...mostly. with the exception of Word, or My Briefcase, or anything from Office.
