Race Report! Dave and I did the Run Through the Grapevine 8K today, and MAN was it challenging. I mean, wow. It was about 75 degrees and much of the course was in direct sun. Since we do our regular runs at 6:00 AM, we haven't really been in those conditions in a LONG time. The race info states that it is a "VERY CHALLENGING" course, but I guess I didn't really believe them. It was seriously a cross-country race, over lots of steep hills, down tricky slopes and ... of course... through some mud. Yummy.
All in all, we're happy with our times. We were both slower than in our last 8K, but that one was on flat, paved surfaces. I finished in 46:51, with a pace of 9:25 per mile, and came in 181st out of 422 runners (in the 43% of racers overall). I felt horrible at the end, but I sure did finish!
Edited to add - The Official Race Report is posted and I just want to point out this quote: "Everyone familiar with the Grapevine series thought the 2003 course, which was changed from previous years, was the toughest yet. "
Posted by natalie at November 2, 2003 8:40 PM | TrackBackNo marathons just yet, but maybe next year. 8K is about 5 miles, so we ran just under 1/5th of a marathon on Sunday.
Y'all got anything on your wish lists for Christmas yet? It looks like I may be in Tanzania for some prime shopping time, so I need to get started NOW. Suggestions welcome!
Posted by: natalie at November 4, 2003 4:15 PMhmm...we'll see what we can do, weather wise. how many marathons are you planning to run, anyway? sheesh..:)
Posted by: alia at November 4, 2003 12:18 AMYou know, I really love warm weather. Heck, I love HOT weather, with a whole bunch of humidity thrown in for good measure. But yesterday's hot weather? ugh. Cooler temperatures would have been a lot better. I'm not too keen on cold AND rainy, though. Could you clear that up before we get out there? Thanks.
Posted by: natalie at November 3, 2003 5:03 PM75 degrees? Its been 30 and rainy here. Doesn't that sound like great T-day weather?
