Alas, a photo essay. I like to call it Anatomy of a Fall.
Here is Connecticut Avenue, NW. See all the people? Now imagine that it's early morning rush hour...
Here's the loop on my Timbuk2 bag (normally used to adjust the strap length. When you're 5'3", you tend to need less strap around your body, and you end up with more of it in the little extra loop, as seen here:
The loop catches on this pole...
...and suddenly, I'm face down in the planter. See the little metal edge around it? That's where my shins hit. I've got a nice bruise on my right shin, but I decided NOT to share that picture!
Three days and counting...
I've been really spastically nervous about the Marathon (see above photo essay for details), but I'm finally excited. The last trackworkout last night was really fun, and goofy and good. We're all ready, physically, but there's still all this uncertainty for those of us who really are first timers. Eep!
Some news coverage (mostly from the Post):
MCM and Security(WaPo)
MCM Live Discussion - Noon today
Record for consecutive marathons
Dude's running backwards
Another possible way to get live splits during the race...i think
That's all for now! Have a happy day!

Posted by: natalie at October 28, 2004 2:09 PMAh!!! A photo essay the likes of which John Berger would be proud! Though Berger's essays appear sans words, the narrative intrusion is... well... delightful... even if it does end with a necessary denoument. :-(
So sorry to hear about your fall... but you should know that we're all very nervous and excited for you. Can't wait to see the look of absolute glee on your face at the end of the race-- not to mention the well-deserved glow of achievement. .
Posted by: CJ at October 28, 2004 11:09 AMsee, I can tell you are a)nervous and b)not running, due to the amazing amount you have been updating the last week.
