Last we met with our intrepid cub reporter of things-in-this-world-that-amaze-her (i.e., critters and spectacles), she had just cast her vote in the presidential election and had completed her first marathon.
Well. Things is different now, ain't they kiddies? Sheesh! Via Wonkette, a fantastic t-shirt that I think about 48% of the country is going to be very interested in. OMGWTF?!
I'm pretty ticked off about this "moral values" thing. And I'm pretty ticked off about the South, too, but for slightly different reasons than you might think. On election day, NPR ran a story (and of course I can't find the link) about how the Kerry campaign decided NOT to focus on the South. They just gave it up because they didn't think they could win there. How boneheaded! Of course the South is going to go a different direction if you don't even try. The Repubs have worked for a long time to gradually move more people over to the red side, so you can't expect a single election to grab all of them and move them back. And then there's Zell. I can't say much about that, except to note that my carpet capital parents attended the celebration party of his Republican replacement, Sen. Johnny Isakson.
Back to moral values. Many people have already said many important things about the topic, so I won't recount those. My primary concern is the many progressive Christians that do place a great amount of value on issues like the environment, social justice, feeding the hungry, clothing the poor, healing the sick and being good stewards of creation. Here are some references if you care about these, too. Links to be added to the sidebar, with more coming as I find them.

Claiming the Blessing "...focused on promoting wholeness in human relationships, abolishing prejudice and oppression, and healing the rift between sexuality and spirituality in the Church."

That's it for now. Just wanted to say that there are many Christians who do care about broader "values" than they say.
