Lots of other folks have made much better, more thorough, and much funnier entries about MD$W than this one will be, but I've gotta get in on this action!
I was very fortunate to have dinner pre-MD$W with some fabulously funny ladies (see links above) and of course, I outed myself as a knitblog stalker. After seeing all the hubbub at the festival, I now know that I'm in excellent company! Cheers, girls!
The festival itself was mind boggling - my brain really couldn't process all of the yarn, sheep and people that were there for the same reasons that I was. Lots of time was spent gawking over the ginormous amount of yarn available - and some time gawking over the $$$. Fortunately, at times that meant the extremely good deals that could be had! Like this:
Less than $15, people, and that's a big honkin' hank of yarn - about 600 yards. Whoo! I'm nothing if not a cheapskate!
And the loveliness of Brooks Farm kid mohair is not to be overstated:
Yum.
I'm going to try my hand at some spinning. I had just heard the Harlot talk about how great it was to learn how to spin with silk, so I got this:
Sitting and knitting at the festival was pretty great, too. We had a lovely hillside of knitters in their natural habitat...
..and lots of hilarious conversations (again) with fantastic new friends. Yay. I'm sure that I'll be horrible about keeping up with everyone I met, but I'll at least know which face goes with which blog!
The next day, I recovered from my sunburn, went for a long run and then had to dash to church. Here's the situation as I tried to rush to get ready and still ice my strangely swollen toe.
Not pretty.
Posted by natalie at May 14, 2005 6:16 PM | TrackBackHey, I was at the MDSW fest too! But I let my boyfriend buy all the fibers (lots of alpaca roving). I just have to hand-spin them.
Thanks for commenting on my blog recently. Knowing another fiber artist is occasionally peeking will make me do more on spinning...
