I've been fortunate to see and hear from several old friends recently. Last week, my college had an alumni gathering on Capitol Hill, where I caught up with several old friends and chuckled at new graduates cheezing over each other. We're so old! Fortunately, the new president seems like a good guy, one that's actually interested in the quality of the library. He doesn't seem like the type to tell people to tug their ear to remind people to say "Rhodes" rather than "Rhodes College."*
Over the weekend, we had a backyard cookout at another former Rhodent's home and caught up with some other undergrad friends. Most of them admit to being lawyers, but at least two have a terrific subversive streak. And dude - she's got a FIRE PIT - we MUST get one of these for our new place!
I've had some emails with a couple of friends from undergrad days. One has gone back to work on his Ph.D. in mathmatics (watch out for formulas involving "SLA juice") and the other has finished his in PoliSci and is teaching at our alma mater (apparently, no more shots of whiskey before class, these days ;) ). I'm really glad to see how well everyone is doing - happy and working hard and remembering good times not *so* long ago.
This weekend brings a meeting to help save bears in SE Asia and Sunday brunch with a friend from my sorority consulting days. Oh yes! I did! One of my fellow CDCs is coming to town for Convention (no, I'm not going to it) and we're going to catch up and see some sights. I'm really looking forward to it.
One final link for those who haven't seen it: Grocery Store Wars. Cuke Skywalker, Chewbroccoli and Darth Tater! Hee!
* This is a true story. The college's ex-Pres thought that "Rhodes" sounded more prestigious than "Rhodes College." In a public address to the campus, he suggested tugging on one's ear to remind people to say "Rhodes" if the longer version were used instead. Ridiculous.
