So...

There's this little bit of news that Dave and I have been keeping mostly to ourselves for the past couple of months. But it's time to share the news and we're both thrilled and terrified to show you this:

7 week ultrasound

Today is officially 12 weeks, and yesterday we got to hear the heartbeat. The sound is somewhere between swish-swish-swish-swish and wcheeo-wcheeoo-wcheoo-wcheoo. Maybe closer to the latter. It really was amazing.

Of course I'm all biology-geek about the whole thing, and I'm fascinated to follow the progress on www.babycenter.com and other sites. As of today, the critter is the size of a lime, about two inches long. Earlier weekly sizes included the following fruits and vegetables: sesame seed, lima bean, peanut, kumquat, fig and strawberry, among others. My uterus is about the size of a grapefruit these days, and I'm just starting to be able to see a wee difference in how my pants fit.

I started a new blog to yap about the critter: Growing a Critter. I'll be sharing that blog with family and friends that aren't so much aware of this one, so please help me keep them separate.

We've told family, of course (we found out 10 days before Christmas, so it was the BEST present we could have gotten), and we're now telling friends. I haven't yet told everyone that I work for (my boss and co-workers know), so if you know any of them (or if you ARE any of them), please keep it on the down-low for another little while.

Yay!
